Too often people tell me they have received a call from Medicare in regards to their Medicare plans and the need to change them.
Too often I hear horror stories about people who had a Medicare plan, and then they were switched unexpectedly. When I ask them did they speak to anyone they respond “Just to Medicare”.
The truth is that Medicare does not call you. Who is calling you is an agent with a company that represents another company that work with Medicare, like a drug plan, or a supplement. Humana, Blue Cross, Aetna, United HealthCare are some examples.
When you give your Medicare ID number, you are making it easy for scammers to change and mess with your Medicare.
Before you do any business with your Medicare, or with your insurance over the phone, please make sure you know who exactly your speaking with in regards to this.
In the end, an ounce of prevention could be a ton of savings from heartache and aggravation
