What are the qualifications for Medicare?

People ask me all the time “Hey Norman, how does someone get Medicare?”

Generally speaking, there are three different ways someone can get Medicare:

1) A person has turned 65.

2) A person has been on disability for 25 consecutive months.

3) A person has been diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease, they are on dialysis)

In addition to the above, and you only have to have one of these factors from above, the person also must have all of the following characteristics:

A) Have contributed to social security for 10 years.

B) Not be incarcerated

C) Must be a US citizen.

If you meet all of these qualifications then you qualify for Medicare.

Please stay safe out there. And of course, if you have any questions, please call me, 828-400-1829.

Thank you,

Norm
